For example, although people disagree about whether global warming is real, those who do believe it is real are starting to change the way they live. According to a 2008 survey conducted by ABC News, Planet Green, and Stanford University, 80 percent of U.S. adults believe global warming is a reality. ...

As tedious and tiresome as it can be, there's something soothing about the sound and smell of leaves as you rake, and something satisfying about seeing them all bundled up when you're done.

What is it about raking leaves that's so satisfying? It has to do with the harvest. Human beings have a primal urge to sow and reap, to gather a crop, to bundle the fruits of their labor. To a farmer, the harvest ...

Pity Sir Robert Watson-Watt,
strange target of his radar plot,
and this, with others I could mention,
a victim of his own invention.

A little while ago, my wife kidnapped me and took me to Napa Valley for a romantic, overnight getaway for just the two of us. I had never been to Napa Valley before. It's lovely. What struck me as I was going past the vineyards was all of the thought and action that went into the rows of vines. A fruitful, productive vineyard is a thing of beauty. But here's the thing about vineyards: they don't just ...

If you want to see God move, you need to make a move!

I learned this lesson in dramatic fashion ...

My friend and I sat on my patio, drinking tea and catching up with life. She had just moved to a new situation, away from familiar work, beautiful spaces and valued friends, and she was experiencing the exhausting emptiness of a job that was too full, a context where she felt undervalued, and a place where friends were not naturally found. The tears filled her eyes as she spoke of her weariness, her ...

On Sunday, October 28, Belgian felon Nordin Ben Allal escaped from prison for the fourth time.

The prisoner's most recent jailbreak is by far the most sensational to date. During an inmate recreation period, Ben Allal's accomplices hijacked a helicopter and forced the pilot to land on Ittre prison premises. Ben Allal first climbed aboard the helicopter, but so did several of his fellow inmates. Overburdened ...

Every day, for close to seven years, his preferred waitress, Melina Salazar, offered a patient smile and did whatever she could to help her most stubborn customer. After years of thankless service, Salazar was rewarded. ...
